It's been three months since the last Short & Sweet but I have finally got around to doing Volume 8. Unfortunately the last two tracks came from the best source I could find If anyone has better rips of those could you please let me know.
Those three months were well spent! I would say that this one, overall is one it the best volumes and that's against some stiff competition! Thanks so much for introducing me to Battened Ships by Odyssey, at first I assumed like most people I imagine that it was THE Odyssey and its rare for two bands with the same name to be so good. On the strength of Battened Ships, I tracked down their only album from 1972 and while I still reckon that Battened Ships is the best track, it's one hell of an album. The Bottom & Co Motown B-side Gonna Find A True Love is a modern soul classic, I only had it on MP3 so kudos for the upgrade. There's three tracks in particular that are totally new to me - The Eight Minutes 'Looking For A Brand New Game' which is so smooth and SOULFUL. Willie Henderson 'The Dance Master' was a total discovery for me - I love those heavy groove early 70s Funk monsters and this is one of the best - it would be good if you ever do another compilation to include the Part 2 instrumental on the flipside - I'd love to get hold of his Funky Chicken album and his 1974 Dance Master album, I imagine they are both worth a listen or three. Leaving the best till last in my opinion was hearing Taxie's Rock Don't Stop - I love that 1979/1980 period when disco/rap period before the genres split as it provides some great dance records like this one. Once again, I appreciate all the hard work it takes to create these compilations and I just hope far more people are downloading than commenting which is always the case!
PS = You mentioned in another comments post that you have your own copy of the 1977 Black Soul album -thst would make a great future post and I'd love to hear it ripped by your good self!
